Helena Madeira

Helena began the study of classical singing with Fernando Serafim at Juventude Musical Portuguesa in 2004, but was in the music “folk” that she took the first steps towards a professional career. She studied singing and harp at the National Conservatory, and also passed at the Jazz School of the Hot Club in Lisbon.Participated in seminars with Lucia Lemos, Claire Honigsbaum, Cathérine Rey, Meredith Monk and Jill Purcell (London), and on Harp at the International Festival of Edinburgh Harp since 2009.

Participated as a singer in his first album in 2004, Dazkarieh band and, since 2006, is lead singer of the MU band, with whom recorded the album Casanostra in 2008 (Carlos Paredes Prize 2009) and l”Folhas que ardem” in 2012. Presented  live in Spain, London, Sweden, Romania, Malaysia and India.In 2010, she began her solo career , composing songs for voice and harp. Recorded collections of original songsand in  2014 was presented the first album A Vos do Embondeiro in Teatro Lethes in Faro.This solo work is the result of the travels in West Africa coast and Europe, and the encounter with traditional musicians from different countries.

Since 2012 she has been invited to play in Spain, Brazil and Cape Verde and in 2015 she recorded with the band “Esfinge” from Faro more original tunes.  But she developed, as well,  medieval music repertoire, performing in the  prestigious Viagem Medieval de Santa Maria, and Dias Medievais de Castro Marim, in 2016.

She has also accompanied numerous weddings , baptisms and other events. She has participated in various musical partnerships, the last of which, on September 2016 at the Hotel Ritz in Lisbon, with  the pianist Artur Guimarães, and the singer Sofia Escobar.
